Biographical Notes

“I leave to my grand son, Burnet Miller, all my lands, meadows, and commonage, and all my right on Montauk, and all stock and cattle, and all wainage and farming tools, and all my books, gun and sword, and my negro peter and my indian boy John."

A Mathias Burnitt is in Town Records v. III p. 136 as a cordwinder by trade. 

Peter, negro sevt. of Capt. Burnet, baptised Nov. 17, 1723 Town Records v.5, p.431: "When Baptised, Peter Negro . . . propounded to him a confession of faith, agreeable to a short catechism in ye book entitled ye Servts. of Abraham . . . This owning of God & engagement ye same as usual at ye baptism of other adult persons."

Burnet's inventory following his death listed "One negro man one indian boy one indian girl" valued at 29 pounds.
